  • Hilton Spencer Academy staff members walk 55 miles for charity

    Five educators set off from Ladybower Reservoir on a trek to raise money for both Umbrella and Spencer Superstars.

    Five staff members from Hilton Spencer Academy participated in a 55-mile challenging hike along the Derwent Valley Heritage Way, raising in excess of £200 to split between Umbrella and Spencer Superstars.

  • Heanor Gate Spencer Academy Achieves "Outstanding" rating from Ofsted

    The secondary academy has undergone a complete transformation from “Inadequate” in 2013 to an “Outstanding” school where “pupils thrive”.

    After its latest Ofsted inspection, Heanor Gate Spencer Academy was rated “Outstanding,” making it one of 26 schools in the East Midlands to hold the grade, and one of only 16 non-special schools.

  • Heanor Gate student wins Silver at World Karate Championships

    Oliver Hughes competed among 5,000 athletes from 31 countries and came second in in his age group’s kumite individual event.

    Oliver Hughes, a student at Heanor Gate Spencer Academy, recently competed at the World Karate Championships in Dundee, Scotland, where he won silver in the kumite individual event.

  • George Spencer school-centred Initial Teacher Training Programme achieves Outstanding rating from Ofsted

    The SCITT received a rating of “Outstanding” across all areas in its first inspection since 2013.

    The George Spencer Academy School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) programme was rated as “Outstanding” across all areas by Ofsted inspectors. The George Spencer Academy SCITT offers programmes for both primary and secondary trainees, as well as apprentices.

  • John Port Principal Karen Squire runs 150 miles in 5 days for charity

    Running around 30 miles a day, Mrs Squire ran from the Trust’s flagship school George Spencer Academy to the Festival of Education at Wellington College to raise money for the Spencer Superstars Charitable Foundation.

    Karen Squire, Principal at John Port Spencer Academy, recently completed a five-day, 150-mile run from George Spencer Academy to Wellington College on behalf of Spencer Superstars.

  • John Port Spencer hosts pupils from The Mease and Hilton Spencer for Oceania Discovery Day

    Around 60 primary pupils participated in three hands-on activities under the guidance of Sixth Form students in a collaborative day of fun and exploration.

    Children from The Mease Spencer Academy and Hilton Spencer Academy participated in a day of activities with John Port Spencer Academy Sixth Form students for Oceania Discovery Day, an opportunity to explore new environments and collaborate with young people outside of their regular cohort.

    Spencer Academies Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of Rachael Saunders to its Central Inclusion Team as the Director of Vulnerable Learners from September 2023.

    Mrs Saunders is currently Assistant Vice Principal at Heanor Gate Spencer Academy.  She is an experienced Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator and Designated Safeguarding Lead and has taught across a range of secondary settings in the East Midlands and London.

    After participating in a three-week internship through the Spencer Alliance for Leadership and Teaching (SALT), Matilda Daley and Geraldine Waterton are positioned to begin their School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT).
