Millside Spencer Academy Celebrates Construction Milestone

Spencer Academies Trust’s newest school, Millside Spencer Academy, celebrated the completion of its Phase 1 construction with a Topping Out Ceremony.

Construction at Millside Spencer Academy hit the milestone of ‘topping out’ with the addition of its roof. The primary school, which will have a capacity of 315 plus 26 nursery children, will be open for the 2023-24 school year.

The school is being built by Morgan Sindall Construction through cooperation with Arc Partnership, Nottinghamshire County Council and SCAPE. Funding for the building comes from a £14 million investment by the Nottinghamshire County Council to improve educational access for the expanding community of East Leake. Representatives from both SCAPE and the County Council joined Millside Spencer Academy Principal Sophia Thorne, Director of Primary Education Angela O’Brien, OBE, and Chair of the Board of Directors Donna Kinderman for a tour of the site. The school’s four year six students were also invited to get a sneak peek; though they will not attend classes in the new building, their legacy will live on through the school’s houses, which bear their names.

Principal Sophia Thorne said, ‘The Millside Spencer community is amazed at the speed our new school building is progressing. These facilities – alongside our existing on-site Forest School area, dedicated staff team, supportive parents and inspirational children – will continue to make Millside Spencer a happy school where everyone can SHINE.’

Director of Primary Education Angela O’Brien, OBE said, ‘We’re so pleased with the progress being made by Morgan Sindall Construction. Between their thoughtful design and construction and the hard work of Sophia Thorne and her team, Millside Spencer Academy is well-positioned to be an excellent addition to the East Leake community.’
