After its third inspection since joining Spencer Academies Trust, Long Field Spencer Academy has been judged “good” by Ofsted.
The glowing report highlights the school’s positive, vibrant culture and supportive, caring environment. Inspectors write that students “cherish being part of this school family” and that they are “mature, polite and respectful.” Long Field Spencer Academy’s standing exceptional in the community is reflected in the statement, “Parents and carers are overwhelmingly positive about their children’s experiences. They believe that the dedication of staff, including that of the principal, is exceptional. They appreciate the school’s strong pastoral care.”
Inspectors also acknowledged the school’s curriculum, highlighting the “strong culture of reading” and “strong subject knowledge” of teachers. They write, “Staff promote pupils’ moral and social development very well.” The SEND curriculum is similarly praised: “Teachers make sure that the curriculum is suitable for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Leaders and staff understand and support the needs of these pupils well.”
Long Field Spencer Academy’s “unique ethos” and “quirky nature” are well summed up in Ofsted inspectors’ statement, “Pupils are rightly proud of their school.”
Principal Chris Haggett said, “We are so pleased at Long Field Spencer Academy. It was a demanding two days but we felt the report and inspection really reflected what it was like to be at our school. The students, staff and parents were all so positive in their feedback during the inspection, it was a bit of a tear jerker for me when we got the feedback. This is now my third inspection at Long Field and it just seems to get better and better as a school. There are plenty more surprises to come next year!”
Director of Secondary Education Fraser Mitchell said, “We are extremely proud of Chris Haggett and his team for building a joyful and wonderfully supportive environment for learning. Ofsted inspectors were able to truly experience life at Long Field Spencer Academy, and the school’s unique strengths and sense of community shine throughout the report.”
