Highfields Spencer Academy celebrates official opening

Highfields Spencer Academy celebrated their official opening earlier this month with many dignitaries in attendance.

Pupils from across the academy delivered a special musical performance, which was then followed by an inspiring speech by Artist John Waterhouse, who has been working closely with the academy.  Spencer Academies Trust CEO Paul West, and dignitaries Councillor Alex Dale and MP Heather Wheeler also addressed the room to acknowledge the special occasion.

Councillor Alex Dale of Derbyshire County Council was delighted to be in attendance, having played a key a part in the development project of the academy and commented,

‘I feel honoured to have been in attendance for the official opening of Highfields Spencer Academy. It is great to see how happy the children are in the almost brand-new school. You can tell that they are all thriving and enjoying their education. It’s great for Derbyshire County Council to be a part of this project, and to work closely with Spencer Academies Trust and other partners like Morgan Sindall and contractors to deliver this great new school.’

MP Heather Wheeler, enjoyed her morning attending the official opening:

‘The Spencer Academies Trust is a key mover in new Education in South Derbyshire, we are very grateful to them and all of the new teachers and staff. The building was up and running in 2020 but now it’s getting more children through the doors. The sun shone, the children were very happy and I was very impressed by the Principal and her staff.’

The Academy, based in the newly developed estate in Littleover currently has three classes including a purpose-built nursery and will have six next year, including two Reception classes and a new Year 3-year class.

Anna Jones, Principal of Highfields Spencer Academy said:

‘It’s been a really exciting journey over the past 2 years building up to the opening. It’s an indescribable feeling to see the staff, pupils, parents, and governors come together, supporting the school so much. We feel so loved and embraced by our community, including all of the new families coming into school in September, and we look forward to growing as an academy.’

Paul West Chief Executive of Spencer Academies Trust commented:

‘Everyone at Spencer Academies Trust is rightly proud of the success that Highfields Spencer Academy has achieved to date, and we were thrilled to join the school and wider community for their official grand opening. My thanks go to the Spencer Trust Team, Derbyshire County Council, Eco Modular, and Morgan Sindall for their hard work and collaboration on the project.

Particular thanks and recognition must go to Academy Principal Anna Jones for her inspirational leadership, along with her dedicated and talented teaching and educational support team and the highly committed Academy Governing Body.’

Highfields Spencer Academy will have their next intake of pupils in September 2022. For more information please contact: info@highfieldsspencer.com
