Spencer Academies Trust acknowledges governors on National School Governors Awareness Day

As part of a nationwide effort to celebrate the hard work of school governors, SAT wants to thank their hard-working governors and encourage more people to get involved.
Today is National School Governors Awareness Day, part of an effort to acknowledge and celebrate the important work that governors do for schools across the country. It is estimated that there are over 300,000 governors in the country, and Spencer academies are among the many schools that owe them our thanks.
School governors volunteer to work as part of a team to help guide strategic direction, hold school leaders to account, and ensure the success of all involved. Their role in building a family of schools that put achievement and wellbeing at the centre of education is invaluable to the Trust.
Ryan Mellor said of his experience as a Community Governor, ‘I joined the governor team at Sunnyside Spencer Academy last year as I started working in the local community with a particular focus on the wellbeing of young people and families. Being a school governor is a great way of using some my work and life experience to both support the school and help bring different parts of the community together for everyone’s benefit. I’ve also found it encouraging and enlightening to see how the school supports its pupils and wider community in so many ways, and this has helped and inspired me in my own work, too.’
As part of the organisation Strictly Education’s ongoing work, they will be hosting free webinars for current or aspiring governors to attend.
