Apple Leadership Day: Investing in our Digital Future

Leaders from across Spencer Academies Trust came together last week for an Apple Leadership Day, taking time to reflect on how purposeful technology can support teaching, learning and the wider experience of pupils and staff across our academies.

Led by Nick Acton, Senior Learning & Development Manager at Select, the day provided an opportunity for leaders to step back from the day-to-day and explore what effective digital leadership looks like, and how technology can be used purposefully to support education.

The session explored six key areas of Apple Leadership: Vision, Culture, Team, Capacity, Measurement and Community. These provided a framework for leaders to consider how digital transformation can be developed and embedded across a school or trust.

Leaders shared ideas and experiences, exploring how iPad and other digital technologies can enhance learning, create new opportunities and support pupils to develop the creativity, independence and digital skills they will need for the future.

A key message throughout the day was the importance of investing in our people as well as our technology. Providing schools with high-quality devices is only part of the journey. By investing in ongoing professional development, we can ensure our staff have the confidence and skills to use technology effectively and that our digital investment makes a genuine difference in the classroom.

Across Spencer Academies Trust, our ambition is about much more than devices. We want technology to broaden horizons, raise aspirations and build ambition, while supporting positive experiences for both pupils and staff.

The day also brought leaders together to consider how we can develop a shared approach to digital transformation across the Trust, creating consistency where it matters while continuing to support innovation and local approaches within our academies.

As our Executive Director of Digital Transformation and Infrastructure, Matthew Taylor, explained: “Our digital strategy is about creating the conditions for technology to make a genuine difference to teaching, learning and the experience of our pupils and staff. That means looking beyond devices and investing in the right infrastructure, leadership, support and professional development.

“Days like this give our leaders the opportunity to think collectively about purposeful digital transformation and how we create a consistent experience across our academies while still enabling innovation locally.

“Our responsibility now is to turn that shared ambition into a clear, sustainable and scalable digital strategy that strengthens every academy and delivers measurable value for pupils, staff and communities.”

The ideas and priorities explored during the day will help shape future digital development across the Trust, supporting our ongoing work to ensure technology makes a meaningful and lasting difference for our pupils, staff and communities.

Together, we are investing not just in technology, but in the people, skills and opportunities that will help our pupils thrive in a digital future.
