Fairfield Spencer Academy celebrates positive Ofsted report

Staff, pupils and families at Fairfield Spencer Academy are celebrating following a successful Ofsted inspection which recognised the academy’s nurturing culture, strong leadership and commitment to helping every child succeed.
Inspectors recognised strengths across every area of the academy’s provision, highlighting pupils’ achievement, behaviour, personal development, leadership and the quality of education.
The report paints a picture of a happy and vibrant school where children enjoy learning and feel a genuine sense of belonging. Inspectors noted that "pupils enjoy coming to this happy and vibrant school" and that they "arrive with smiles and are greeted warmly by all staff."
Relationships were identified as a key strength throughout the school. Pupils told inspectors they feel safe, cared for and supported, while leaders have created an environment where high expectations and kindness go hand in hand. Inspectors found that "the school has a positive atmosphere and is a happy place to learn" and noted that relationships between pupils and staff are positive. Bullying is rare and pupils respond well to the school's expectations.
The school's recently introduced SPARK values - Self-belief, Pride, Aspiration, Responsibility and Kindness - were recognised for their positive impact on school life. Inspectors noted that pupils and families speak enthusiastically about the values and how they guide behaviour and relationships across the academy. One pupil summed up the school's ethos by telling inspectors: "This school helps us ignite our spark."
Pupils also told inspectors that the school creates a "real sense of belonging", reflecting the warm and inclusive culture that runs throughout the academy.
The inspection praised the impact of recent leadership developments, recognising how new leadership has strengthened unity across the school and established a clear vision for continued improvement. Inspectors found that leaders have "a clear vision and sense of purpose" and make improvement decisions with "the best interests of pupils at their heart".
The report highlighted the positive outcomes achieved by pupils, noting that children get a strong start in the early years and that pupils achieve well across the school. Children in the early years were described as busy, engaged and excited about their learning, while across the school pupils develop strong reading, writing and mathematical skills and are well prepared for their next stages of education.
Fairfield's commitment to inclusion was also recognised. Inspectors found that staff know pupils' needs well and use effective strategies to help overcome barriers to learning. The report highlighted that the school has "established effective systems so that all pupils’ needs are known well" and praised the "high-quality support" provided by the pastoral team. Leaders work closely with families, external agencies and the wider community to ensure every child receives the support they need.
Inspectors also celebrated the school's extensive personal development programme, which helps prepare pupils for life beyond the classroom. Ofsted described the programme as "ambitious and well-considered" and noted that pastoral support is "woven throughout the work of the school". From origami and crochet clubs to sporting opportunities and musical performances, pupils benefit from a wide range of experiences that build confidence, self-esteem and aspiration.
The report also praised the school's safeguarding culture, recognising that leaders have established "an open culture in which safeguarding is everyone's responsibility" and where concerns are "actively identified, acted upon and managed".
Staff wellbeing and professional development were also highlighted positively. Inspectors recognised Fairfield as "a learning community" where staff feel valued and where leaders ensure staff have "the time they need to do their job well". Staff are supported to develop professionally while working collectively towards the school's vision.
Gemma Gregory, Principal at Fairfield Spencer Academy, shared: “We are delighted that the report recognises the strong sense of unity and belonging across our school, and that children are truly at the heart of everything we do. Our SPARK values shape not just what children learn, but who they become.
We found the inspection a very positive process and valued the opportunity to share the journey we are on. I am incredibly proud to be part of this community as we continue to build a joyful school where everyone belongs, kindness leads and curiosity is sparked every day.”
Kate Green, Interim Chief Executive Officer at Spencer Academies Trust, also said: “This report marks a significant milestone for Fairfield Spencer Academy and reflects the clarity of vision and strength of leadership across the school. It is particularly pleasing to see the impact of leaders’ work in creating a culture where pupils thrive both academically and personally. Fairfield exemplifies our Trust’s ambition to deliver excellent education alongside genuine care for every child, and we are very proud of the staff, pupils and families who have made this possible.”
