Spencer Academies Trust announces first-of-its-kind Primary Internships

This new programme offers aspiring primary teachers a three-week placement within one of our Trust schools to gain hands-on experience in the classroom.

Through the Spencer Alliance for Leadership and Teaching (SALT), Spencer Academies Trust is launching a three-week internship for aspiring primary teachers, the first programme of its kind in the country.

Mirroring the DfE Secondary Internships programme, primary interns will receive comprehensive training throughout the placement as they spend time in classrooms learning from outstanding teachers. The programme includes opportunities to support pupils in their education, explore curriculum development, and work in pairs to plan and deliver a short session and group intervention. Each participant will be paid £1,000 for their work during the three-week placement funded by the Trust in this innovative recruitment approach.

Aspiring teachers who complete the internship will also have a direct line to the Trust’s School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) and, eventually, a dynamic and rewarding career within our Trust.

Director of the Spencer Teaching School Hub Tammy Elward said, “We are excited that, with the support of the Trust, we can offer funded placements for 15 interns at Wyndham Spencer Academy and Chetwynd Spencer Academy. We are grateful for their contribution in supporting our recruitment strategy, allowing those considering a future in teaching an experience of our trust schools to grow our One Spencer family.”

Director of Primary Education Angela O’Brien, OBE said, “This is a great opportunity for aspiring teachers to experience firs-hand what teaching is like in a Spencer school and hopefully the beginning of a career with us. We are very keen to support the educators of the future.”
