Spencer Academies Trust is delighted to welcome Sam Sykes, Chris James and Richard Goodman as new members of our Board of Directors, joining the Trust from 1 September 2026.
The three new Directors bring a wealth of experience from across education, finance, strategic leadership, stakeholder engagement and the charity sector, further strengthening the expertise and perspective of our Board.

It has been a morning of celebration across Spencer Academies Trust as our Year 11 students receive their GCSE results. After months of preparation and years of hard work, students can now look ahead to the next stage of their education, with many continuing into sixth form, college, apprenticeships and other exciting opportunities.
This year, 70% of students achieved grade 4 or above in English and mathematics, with 53% achieving grade 5 or above in both subjects. Across the Trust, 65% achieved five or more grades at 4 or above, while 49% achieved five or more grades at 5 or above.
Today marks an exciting milestone for our Year 13 students as they receive the results they have worked towards throughout their Sixth Form journey. Across Spencer Academies Trust, there is plenty to celebrate, with students achieving some excellent grades and securing a wide range of opportunities for their next steps.
The strength of this year’s results is reflected in a number of key achievements, including 99% of students achieving A*-E grades, 53% achieving A*-B and 26% achieving A*-A. The overall average grade was B-, with students across the Trust achieving some excellent individual results.
Three Spencer Academies Trust colleagues have been recognised for their outstanding contribution to careers education after receiving nominations at the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) Careers Hub's inaugural regional celebration, “From Skills to Careers”.

We are pleased to share that Spencer Academies Trust will play an active role in the Department for Education's new Regional Improvement for Standards and Excellence (RISE) programme, following the publication of the RISE Regional Plans on 29 June.
RISE is a national school improvement programme designed to help schools work together to raise standards, share effective practice and improve outcomes for children and young people. It forms part of the government's Opportunity Mission, which aims to break the link between a child's background and their future success.
More than 45 delegates from 36 schools across the East Midlands came together for Spencer Academies Trust’s Higher Education and UCAS Conference last month, providing careers leaders, post-16 staff and education professionals with expert guidance on supporting students as they navigate their next steps after sixth form.
The event, organised by Spencer Academies Trust’s Post-16 team, welcomed speakers from UCAS and leading universities including Cambridge, Oxford, Derby and Nottingham, offering practical advice on university applications, admissions processes and the opportunities available through higher education.

Andy Haywood, Teaching Assistant at Rushcliffe Spencer Academy has been shortlisted for this year’s Tes Schools Awards, which celebrate the UK’s most inspiring teachers and schools from both the state and independent sectors, following a record-breaking number of nominations.
Rushcliffe Spencer Academy marked a major milestone on Friday 17 April, with the official opening of its brand-new C Block - a significant development set to enhance learning experiences for hundreds of students.
The school welcomed staff, leaders from Spencer Academies Trust, representatives from Nottinghamshire County Council, project partners, and students to a special opening event celebrating the completion of the ambitious £32 million expansion project.
Students across Spencer Academies Trust have been given a powerful insight into life at two of the world’s leading universities, following a three-day Oxford and Cambridge trip that is already helping to raise aspirations.
Led by Executive Director of Post-16, Susan Sharp, the visit saw 168 students and 17 staff members travel over 650 miles to experience academic life at St Edmund Hall, Oxford, and Peterhouse, Cambridge. More than 80 of the students were from Spencer Academies Trust sixth forms, alongside learners from the wider Spires collaboration with the Redhill Trust.
